It’s time to pull out the red, white, and blue because the 4th of July is just around the corner! Looking for ways to celebrate America’s 243rd birthday in Birmingham? Look no further. We have the perfect guide to make sure your holiday is full of festivities and fun!

Thunder on the Mountain

Time: July 4th at 9 PM

Location: Vulcan Park and Museum

This is one of Birmingham’s most beloved Independence Day traditions you don’t want to miss! Arguably one of the top firework displays in the Southeast, this 20-minute show will illuminate the skies above the Vulcan statue. The best part about this firework show is that it’s synchronized to music! For the best viewing experience, make sure you have a clear view of Vulcan. Prime viewing locations include Five Points South, Homewood, Vestavia, Mountain Brook, and the UAB campus. 

Birmingham Barons Game

Time: July 4th at 6:00 PM

Location: Region’s Field

What better way to celebrate America’s birthday than by watching America’s pastime? Cheer on the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, as they host the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Region’s Field. The stadium will be open late for attendees to watch Thunder on the Mountain from one of the best seats in the entire city! 

Birmingham Track Club Peavine Falls Run

Time: July 4that 7:00 AM

Location: Oak Mountain State Park

 Rise and shine to start your 4thof July off with a little fitness! Enjoy an early morning run through Oak Mountain State Park with 600 of your closest friends. Getting in some physical activity might justify the ribs, potato salad, and homemade ice cream you’ll devour later that afternoon. Plus, it’s never too early to start training for the Highlands College Half Marathon 😉

 

4th of July Festival

Time: July 4th at 5:00 – 9:00 PM

Location: Downtown Homewood

There isn’t a better way to celebrate the 4th than with an old-fashioned block party! Make your way to Downtown Homewood to enjoy a combination of rides, attractions, and activities. This is also the perfect place to catch a bite to eat. Get BBQ at Demetri’s, pizza at Dave’s, or Mexican at Tostadas. But don’t get too full on dinner! You’ll need to save room for Cookie Fix who will have 4thof July desserts that will make your mouth water.

4th of July Concert

Time: July 4th at 6:30 PM

Location: Bartow Arena Park

Kick back and relax by listening to the UAB Summer Band at Bartow Arena Park. Bring your own lawn chair to sit and soak in a variety of music from show tunes, Broadway classics, patriotic favorites, and more! Not only will you get to enjoy free music, but this is also a great way to guarantee prime seating for the fireworks shot from atop Red Mountain.
